Coronavirus in sport – Ilija Petković died of COVID-19 | Eurosport on TVN24 – Football

Despite loosening the restrictions and gradually closing the lockdown, COVID-19 has not ceased to be a serious threat, also to people from the world of sport.

The coronavirus does not give up

Recently, the excellent ski jumper Adam Małysz and Serbian tennis player Novak Djoković have been infected with coronavirus. Petković became another victim of the virus, unfortunately fatal.

An experienced coach played 43 matches in the Yugoslavia national team. Last against Poland (1: 2) in the world championships in West Germany in 1974.

He was briefly the coach of the national team of Yugoslavia (2000), and longer led Serbia and Montenegro (2003-2006), including again at the World Cup in Germany (2006), where his team suffered three defeats in the group: with the Netherlands, Argentina and Ivory Coast.

As a trainer he worked in clubs in Serbia, Switzerland, Greece, Japan, China, South Korea and Qatar.
