Coronavirus in Spain today, live: COVID vaccine with AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna | Restrictions and curfew

IBERO-AMERICAN SUMMIT TO HELP LATIN AMERICAN COUNTRIES WITH VACCINATION

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will cover the countries of Latin America, among the hardest hit worldwide by the pandemic, in his calls for universal access to COVID-19 vaccines as well as access to international financing to alleviate the economic damage caused by what began as a health crisis.

That will be the main message that the President of the Government will convey on the occasion of the XXVII Ibero-American Summit which will host next Tuesday and Wednesday Andorra and that, due to the pandemic, it will have a hybrid format in which only five presidents will be present, including Sánchez himself.

The irruption of the pandemic a little over a year ago forced the summit, scheduled for November, to be postponed and also to modify its motto. Thus, at the beginning ‘Innovation for sustainable development. Objective 2030 ‘, which has not been abandoned, the tagline’ Ibero-America facing the challenge of the coronavirus’ has been added.

The summit seeks, according to government sources, to offer concrete answers to three fundamental questions, the health crisis, the economic crisis and the post-covid recovery. In all of them, they add, Spain will be deeply involved.

At the health level, access to vaccines will be the central issue. In fact, the declaration that the presidents will sign is committed to universal access to the vaccine, a position that the President of the Government has been defending for a long time and regarding which an announcement could be made, which Moncloa has preferred not to anticipate.

Also in relation to the pandemic, but prior to the summit, a meeting will be held on Tuesday under the slogan ‘Reform and strengthen the global health system for a better response to future pandemics’ and in which the idea is to address mainly the proposal made by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, of an international treaty on pandemic prevention and preparedness.

In this meeting they will participate, in addition to Sánchez, the Andorran Prime Minister, Xavier Espot, that of Portugal, António Costa, the President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, that of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado, as well as the Ibero-American Secretary General, Rebeca Grynspan. In addition, the French President, Emmanuel Macron, has been invited, who, like the two Latin American leaders, will intervene electronically.
