Should the state of Baden-Württemberg alone introduce a general vaccination requirement if necessary? The State Ministry rejects this idea and explains why.

Stuttgart – A single-handed corona vaccination, which only applies to Baden-Württemberg, is not possible according to a spokesman for the State Ministry in Stuttgart. The Federal Infection Protection Act does not allow this, he said on Wednesday. The federal regulation to regulate the compulsory vaccination only for particularly threatened parts of the population, there is a blocking effect for the states to introduce vaccination requirements.
The FDP state chairman Michael Theurer had previously criticized Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) and Bavaria’s head of government Markus Söder (CSU) for not having proposed mandatory vaccinations to their state parliaments.

Bundestag advises on general vaccination requirements
The government spokesman doubted whether compulsory vaccination would only be suitable for parts of Germany in order to achieve basic immunization. “Apart from that, it is also politically extremely problematic if inconsistent regulations apply in the federal states.”

The Bundestag is expected to decide this year on a general vaccination against Corona in a free vote without parliamentary group discipline. Resistance is stirring within the FDP in the Bundestag. Theurer was also skeptical as to whether a general vaccination requirement could convince vaccination opponents to vaccinate against Corona.
