Coronavirus – Final results to follow CureVac effectiveness “within seven to ten days” – Belgium

(Belga) Franz-Werner Haas, the CEO of the German CureVac, expects to be able to publish the final results of the large-scale clinical study into the effectiveness of his vaccine shortly. “It will take no longer than seven to ten days. We expect the results in the short term,” Haas said Monday evening.

Earlier this month, CureVac announced that preliminary results showed an effectiveness of just 47 percent. As a result, the candidate vaccine did not meet the pre-established criteria. Still, Haas remains convinced that the vaccine will eventually receive market approval. “Today we still plan to get this vaccine approved,” it said. The European medicines agency EMA started a so-called rolling review in February, which means that the vaccine can be assessed more quickly. The European Commission had reached a deal with CureVac in November to purchase 225 million doses of the vaccine, with an option for a further 180 million doses. Belgium has subscribed to 2.9 million doses. (Belgium)
