Coronavirus – a quarter more infections

The number of infections, hospitalizations and deaths from Covid-19 continue to rise. The epidemic is gaining momentum.

Between 9 and 15 March, an average of 9,055 new infections with the corona virus were diagnosed daily, 25 percent more than in the previous seven days.

The number of hospitalizations rose 17 percent between March 12 and 18 to an average of 169 per day. There are now 2,263 people in hospital (+17 percent), 170 of whom require intensive care. There is still a decrease (-4 percent).

In the period from 9 to 15 March, an average of 19 people per day died from the virus: 5 percent more than the week before.

In that period, an average of about 36,100 tests were taken (+6 percent). This brings the positivity rate to 26.8 percent (+3.7 percent).

The reproduction number increases to 1.11 (+9 percent). A number above 1 means that the epidemic is gaining momentum.

In the meantime, stricter measures against the virus are in force in Austria and a few covid deaths have been counted in China, the first victims in more than a year in the country.
