Coronavirus: 3 new cases (including 2 imported) in Reunion

The prefecture and the Regional Health Agency confirm 3 new cases of coronavirus registered in Reunion this Saturday. Two of these new cases are imported, the third is under investigation. The island now has 520 cases in total.

The prefecture and the Regional Health Agency confirm 3 new cases of coronavirus registered in Reunion this Saturday June 27 at 3:00 p.m. Two of these new cases are imported (including one as part of a medical evacuation as part of regional solidarity). The 3rd case is under investigation.

The prefecture and the ARS recall “the importance of respecting containment measures on arrival and submitting to the test 7 days or 14 days after arrival depending on the devices”. The authorities also recall that children should not go to school if their parents are in the fortnight.

Since the first case appeared on March 11, 520 cases are registered in total in the departement. Nowadays, 472 people having contracted Covid-19 are no longer contagious and are considered cured.

“We must redouble our vigilance”

According to Doctor Gaüzere interviewed Thursday evening by Réunion La1ère, this rise in cases “was to be feared with the resumption of flights“.” It was expected, now we have to see in the coming days if it is a trend or if it is an accident “, continues Doctor Gaüzere, who believes that we must be extra vigilant. “We see the abandonment of masks in stores, we must put them back on and be vigilant because the flights will continue to arrive during the holidays”, warns Doctor Gaüzere.

72% of cases imported

This Saturday, June 27, 515 cases were investigated by the Regional Health Agency, Public Health France and Health Insurance. Imported cases represent 72% of cases.

  • 376 imported cases (people who contracted the disease outside the territory) including 32 cases from a medical evacuation as part of regional solidarity
  • 74 secondary Aboriginal cases (people directly related to imported cases)
  • 65 indigenous cases (people with an indirect link or having no link with an imported case).

Reminder for parents of students in their fortnight

Following investigations into 3 cases confirmed by screening at the airport, the ARS noted that despite the instructions transmitted in strict isolation for them and their families, children residing in the homes of these people had visited their schools. In connection with the Rectorate, the heads of establishments and the personnel concerned were contacted and the parents of pupils were informed.

Given the date of arrival of infected people (Wednesday 24/06) and the incubation period of the disease, the risk that children, who had not traveled, have been infected and are already contagious is extremely low .

The risk is further reduced by the correct application within the establishment of health protocols, the children having been in classes where wearing a mask was compulsory and social distancing perfectly respected. The families of those infected were contacted to remind them of the strict conditions of home isolation. Screening of all family members is underway.

Almost 3,800 identified contact persons

Nearly 3800 people called individually and followed up through “contact-tracing”. “Contact-tracing” is a device which aims to identify and remind all people who have been in close contact with a confirmed case of Coronavirus during its contagious period (we speak of “contact subjects” or “contacts “).

These people are the subject of a telephone survey during which their health is assessed and the importance of:

  • respect strict isolation (fourteen),
  • monitor their state of health daily,
  • call immediately 15 or his doctor in case of symptoms,
  • wear a mask in case of face to face contact with other people.
