The coronavirus has killed 860 people since the start of the epidemic and 2,082 patients were in intensive care Monday evening, announced the Minister of Health Olivier Véran.

These assessments reflect an increase of 186 deaths and 1,435 additional patients in intensive care in 24 hours, said the minister, out of a total of 8,675 hospitalized patients.

After the death of five doctors in France, the minister announced that “for all these caregivers who fall ill, the coronavirus will be recognized as an occupational disease: there will be no debate on it”.

“The situation is difficult,” he admitted, “but we are not giving up hope.”

Responding to the concern of professionals, he also assured that “20 million masks will be delivered this week to hospitals and nursing homes, prioritizing areas of active circulation of the virus” and another 20 million to city carers “at the latest at the beginning of next week “.

Similarly, he said that thanks to the work in progress, two kinds of fundamental tests to identify coronavirus patients “faster, simpler, avoiding going through large structures” will be available, “we hope in the coming weeks “

These are serologies that allow, by simple blood test, to know whether the patient has contracted the disease or not.

According to Véran, with 5,000 tests performed every day today, France is in the “high average” of Western countries, even if Germany performs “a little more than double”.

“All health establishments, whether public or private, are fully mobilized, in particular in the Grand Est,” he insisted on “silencing certain rumors”: “Private clinics are mobilized and services are available, ”he said.
