Coronavirus: 11% increase in contamination appears to be limited to three provinces

These are the provinces of Antwerp, Limburg and Liège

Cn Tuesday, Sciensano reports an 11% increase in the average of new Covid-19 cases recorded daily in the past seven days. There are an average of 95.3 cases registered each day. In total, the number of infections amounts to 62,781 in Belgium.

The increase in cases seems to be limited to the provinces of Antwerp, Limburg and Liège, underlines Sciensano. Most new infections are currently occurring in the workforce (20-59 years of age).

On Monday, there were nine hospital admissions for five discharges, a total of 138 people were still hospitalized for the Covid-19, including 23 in intensive care. The Belgian assessment shows a total of 9,787 deaths, which is 5 more than in the last assessment released on Saturday. On average, over the past week, the coronavirus has killed 1.6 Belgians each day.

The total number of Covid-19 cases is greatly underestimated in our country, due to the lack of availability of tests at the start of the epidemic, which forced us to screen only the most serious cases.
