The travel agency wants to test holidaymakers who want such a corona proof holiday just before departure for the virus and after two days in the resort again. In this way, infected travelers can be filtered out. The company purchases hundreds of thousands of corona tests. A test facility should be located near Schiphol.
Many people no longer feel like sticking to the one-and-a-half measure, Corendon CEO Steven van der Heijden said in This is the Day on Radio 1. “Holiday in a resort on a beach near a swimming pool and a meter and a half does not fit together. But if you make sure that you put people in such a hotel and employees that you are sure that they are not infected, then it is possible again. “
Quarantine
Doesn’t that make it a kind of self-chosen quarantine? “Yes,” says Van der Heijden, “but not a quarantine to wait and see whether people have become infected, but because they have been tested, are healthy and can therefore move freely.” That free movement is therefore limited to the resort.
Clean travel, as Van der Heijden calls it, is only possible at large all-inclusive resorts, because they are easy to shield. Corendon has these holiday parks in Turkey, but also in Sardinia and Sicily. We are already in talks with the local authorities, “said Van der Heijden on the radio.” There are hardly any infections there. The Italian government is also working on restarting tourism there. “
According to Van der Heijden, the phase “that something is possible again” has been reached and bookings are increasing. “People are hopeful. We are already seeing bookings for September and October.”
Corendon plans to launch the corona proof holiday later this week. The company thinks it can offer the tours from late July.
