Half of the Belgians say that their cooking skills have improved significantly during the lockdown. In addition, three-quarters have explored new culinary horizons and nearly half of our compatriots prepared noticeably more vegetables.

The March and April lockdown was not just doom and gloom. It has also given some people the opportunity to hone a few skills, such as cooking. A survey by meal delivery helper HelloFresh among 1,000 Belgians shows that half of them think that they can serve better meals since the lockdown.

The various kitchens from which we draw inspiration have also been expanded. About 73% of the respondents report that they have searched for new recipes.

Walloons eat healthier

Another striking finding is that 44% of Belgians have prepared more vegetables. It also seems to be easy with the possible extra corona kilos, because only three out of ten people snack more during the lockdown.

A quarter of Belgians have even looked for ways to cook healthier and 35% say they now put more balanced dishes on the table. It is striking that the switch is larger south of the language border. In Wallonia, 45% eat more fruit and vegetables, while in Flanders it is 37%.
