James Richardson, director of foreign aid resources at the US State Department, emphasized that, in the face of the Corona epidemic, the United States, through the US administration, private companies and non-governmental organizations, contributed $ 6.5 billion.
These efforts were represented by emergency humanitarian, health, economic and development assistance to governments around the world, international organizations and non-governmental organizations, Richardson said.
He pointed out that the United States is the only and most generous donor in the global response to “Covid-19”, which constitutes 39 percent of the total aid provided by government and international multilateral actors.
He revealed that American companies, nonprofits, charities, and individuals have so far provided more than $ 4 billion in donations and aid abroad.
Richardson noted that the total amount of US aid the government and private sector have provided to the world has reached $ 6.5 billion.
In addition to foreign health, humanitarian and economic aid, Richardson said, the United States is leading efforts to discover vaccines and medicines to help eradicate the epidemic.
He pointed out that the US government has allocated $ 2.6 billion so far to the American authorities involved in scientific research to search for and develop a vaccine, in addition to seven billion dollars allocated by the American private sector to search for drugs and vaccines to fight Covid 19.
For his part, a senior administration official confirmed that the United States is leading international efforts in the face of “Covid-19” through its chairmanship of the Group of Seven countries by moving the largest coordination process of efforts in the health, financial, humanitarian, and science and technology sectors to save lives, restore economic growth, and protect Jobs and stimulate investment in the world.
The official pointed out that the US President, Donald Trump, initiated a meeting of the leaders of the seven countries at the beginning of the Corona crisis through a video circle to push forward the collective response, including the holding of weekly meetings of health ministers in the seven countries.
He said, “The United States is also leading the efforts of the seven coordinating countries in other tracks, including foreign ministers of the seven countries, finance ministers, bank governors, and officials in the field of science and technology to ensure that all seven countries use the tools available to respond to the epidemic.”
On the lack of aid provided by the World Health Organization to Yemen because of the suspension of US funding for the organization, another senior administration official said, “Our commitment to Yemen is very strong as it receives significant assistance from the United States.”
And he gave the American people “over the past twenty years more than four billion dollars to this country,” according to the official, who added, “We are committed to Yemen and we look forward to continuing to play a strong role. The United States is not the only donor and we look forward to working with other donors to ensure that our assistance is effective.”
