On Thursday at 9.30 am ‘TestCovid’ opens on Spoor Oost in Borgerhout, the first Belgian test village for Covid-19 on a large scale. Residents of the city of Antwerp and four neighboring municipalities can have a test taken there.

The test village is not freely accessible, but only by appointment. Visitors must meet four criteria to be tested:

  • A activation code got it. This code is obtained through a contact investigator or automatically after returning from a risk area.
  • No disease symptoms of corona.
  • To live in 1 of the 9 districts from the city of Antwerp, or in the municipality Borsbeek, Schoten, Stabroek or Wommelgem.
  • Herself registered have on www.testcovid.be. On this site you have to enter the obtained activation code and answer a number of questions. Those who are eligible can then make an appointment for the test village, up to two days in the future.

After making an appointment, the applicant will be sent an e-ticket with a QR code. This code, together with an identity document, gives access to the test village.

The aim of the test village is to reduce the great pressure on the first-line aid. So that Antwerp GPs, emergency services and laboratories can once again fully focus on patients with corona symptoms or other symptoms.

Companies will also know more quickly whether an employee must be in isolation or can return to work. The system also contributes to a better separation of people with and people without disease symptoms.

The results can be consulted within 24 to 48 hours after the test www.mijngezondheid.be or through his doctor. Appropriate guidelines are given on the basis of the results.

Drive-in

The test village is comparable to a drive-in, a system in which as many people as possible can be helped in a short time. “Initially, the test village will be open seven days a week from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm from Thursday 6 August for a number of weeks,” the city of Antwerp said in a press release. It is estimated that between 500 and 600 tests will be taken per day. If necessary, it can be expanded.

There are three test streets: two for people arriving by car, one for pedestrians. Those who come by bicycle leave it in the bicycle shed and walk along the street with their pedestrians – at a sufficient distance. Those who come by car will remain in the car during the test. Pedestrians sit on a chair during the test.

“With the predicted heat wave from August 6, the organization will also temporarily take additional measures to protect those waiting and employees from the heat,” it says.
