The billing of a supplement “corona“is not prohibited but it cannot lead to an exorbitant price, warned on Wednesday the Minister of the Economy, Nathalie Muylle (CD&V), in response to a question from Melissa Depraetere (sp.a). A number of Horeca businesses and establishments mention on the receipt a supplement intended to cover the costs which they must incur within the framework of the measures against covid-19.
If such a practice is not prohibited, the supplement must however be clearly mentioned. It must also be proportionate to the costs actually incurred. “We will intervene against exorbitant prices”, said Ms. Muylle. The Economic Inspectorate has been particularly attentive to abuses since the start of the pandemic, assured the minister. Since the start of the crisis, it has received 254 reports and opened 411 investigations.
