Coronavirus probably enters the body primarily through the nose

We know that the coronavirus spreads mainly through droplet infection and enters the body through certain proteins. Researchers now wanted to know which cells contain these proteins – and where they are located.

Special cells in the nose are according to a study
the most likely entry points for the new corona virus
.
Several research teams had cells from the lungs, nose, eyes, intestines,
Heart, kidney and liver are examined like the Max Delbrück Center for
Molecular Medicine (MDC) in Berlin reported on Thursday.

she
wanted to find out which cells are the two most important
Entry proteins ACE2 and TMPRSS2 contain the virus for the
 Infection
. “We then showed that of all the cells
mucus-producing goblet cells and cilia in the nose
have the highest concentrations of these two proteins, “explained
Lead author Waradon Sungnak from the Wellcome Sanger Institute. “That makes
these cells become the most likely primary route of infection for the virus. ”

Other possible routes of infection

The two most important entry proteins are also in
To find corneal cells of the eye and in the intestinal mucosa
the Max Delbrück Center continued to report. That points to one
another possible route of infection via the eye or the
 Tear glands.

So there is also potential for one
Transmission via faeces and ingestion by mouth
, writes
rather cautious of the MDC. The research teams have their result in
 Technical journal “Nature Medicine” published.

Various institutes were involved in the study, including some
the Wellcome Sanger Institute, the University Hospital Groningen and
the University of Cote d’Azur and the Human Cell Atlas Lung
 Biological Network.

According to the, up to 20 percent of corona patients suffer
MDC message damage to the heart muscle up to heart failure
. Also
the docking station for the corona virus was found there. Not clear
however, is still whether the virus itself causes the damage to the heart
 or whether it’s secondary effects.

Forensic doctor examines corona dead people and reports of abnormality

The corona virus continues to spread. More than 90,000 people have now died after being infected with the novel virus. In Germany alone, more than 2,000 corona people died.

Some of the dead came to Klaus Püschel after their death. He is the director of the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the University Clinic Eppendorf in Hamburg. His job is to autopsy the corona dead. But: why do you do it at all? Finally, it is clear that the death of …
