Corona quarantine: In future, freestays will only be after seven days

The Free State of Bavaria has changed the quarantine regulations: From next Tuesday, contact persons of infected people will only be able to test themselves free after seven days. So far, the deadline has been five days.

Contact persons must remain symptom-free

The prerequisite is that no typical signs of illness have occurred during the quarantine at home, according to the official announcement of the Bavarian Ministry of Health. In addition, a PCR or rapid test must be negative no earlier than seven days after the last contact with the infected person.

Reason: high infection rate

This extension of the minimum quarantine period is justified by the fact that “a safe interruption of the chains of infection of asymptomatic close contact persons often does not succeed”. It is said that infections could often only be detected after the fifth day or later. As a further reason, the general decree mentions the significantly increased number of infections.

New regulations also for vaccinated and convalescent people

The same now applies to those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered with an additional vaccination who have tested positive for the coronavirus using a PCR test. With asymptomatic illness, they too can no longer take a break after five days at the earliest, but only after seven days. In addition, the local authorities can issue stricter quarantine rules at any time – “especially if there is a high regional outbreak”.

The minimum quarantine period for these cases (contact persons, sick with Covid19, asymptomatic vaccinated and recovered with additional vaccination) was shortened by the state government to five days only six weeks ago.
