Corona overview: at least 19 infections, world economy growing half percent less

General practitioners are concerned that the pressure on health care is caused by the corona virus becomes too big. They fear that care for patients with and without the virus will be compromised, among other things because GPs are overburdened and the practices have insufficient protection material.

The Beatrix hospital in Gorinchem announced a patient stop yesterday because someone had been suffering from the corona virus without the hospital knowing. No new cases of infection have yet been established, so the obstetrics and pediatrics departments will open again immediately. The day treatments for chemotherapy will also be resumed tomorrow. A visitor stop remains valid for the time being, except for parents of children who are in the hospital.

The European headquarters of sports brand Nike in Hilversum has completely closed its doors. The office will also be closed tomorrow, so that it can be thoroughly cleaned. One of the employees is infected with the corona virus, according to an email to the staff.

Recovered patients

Across Europe, 2,100 infections have now been recorded, including the first two patients in Portugal. In Italy, the death toll has risen sharply in the last 24 hours, from 34 to 52.

In China, in fact, far fewer infections have been detected in recent days. There were 202 yesterday, say Chinese state media. That is why, for the first time since the outbreak of the corona virus, an emergency hospital is closing. The last recovered patients from the hospital in the metropolis of Wuhan have been sent home.
