The same applies to residents of the affected region around the Tönnies slaughterhouse: Who a negative corona test, will be able to start his vacation in Austria. In North Rhine-Westphalia summer vacation starts on Monday.

According to information from the dpa news agency from NRW government circles, the Prime Minister called Armin Laschet (CDU) several times over the weekend with the Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurzto discuss the situation. Laschet explained the measures taken by the affected groups and the country to contain the outbreak, as well as the efforts to massively test Tönnies employees, their environment and the entire population. Kurz expressed his appreciation for it and welcomed the consistent approach.

NRW government circles also said that Austria did not ban accommodation. Rather, the general entry restrictions for all regions in Europe affected by high infection numbers would now also be applied to Gütersloh. Laschet briefly promised not to include the Warendorf district here. The Austrian Ministry of Health also officially communicated this to the German Embassy in Vienna. As soon as the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in Gütersloh has fallen below 50 within the past seven days, the restriction should also be lifted here.

In the travel information from the Federal Foreign Office It is currently said that, according to a message from the Austrian Ministry of Health, travelers from Gütersloh must submit a negative corona test upon arrival from Monday 00.01 a.m.

The Austrian Minister of Health Rudolf Anschober (Greens) had previously announced on ORF that vacationers from the Gütersloh district would only be able to travel to Austria in the future with a negative corona test. Austria behaves analogously to German regulations. “We are making a common line there,” Anschober said. The test should not be older than 48 hours.

Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) said that people from this region should expect controls at airports, but also when entering by car. The plans would not apply to travelers from the neighboring district of Warendorf, where the number of corona infections had developed significantly better, it said.
