After Belgium, the Omicron variant of the coronavirus has also been identified in England. The two British cases are linked and linked to a trip to southern Africa, Health Minister Sajid Javid said.
The two have gone into self-isolation with their households. In the meantime, it is being investigated who they have had contact with. As a precaution, additional testing is being done in the cities where they reside, Nottingham and Chelmsford. If the test is positive, it is checked whether it concerns the Omicron variant.
The Omicron variant was discovered in South Africa and has been found in Belgium and Israel, among others. This is most likely also the case in Germany, and a suspicious case is also being investigated in the Czech Republic.
