Corona news: 5909 infections in Brabant, RIVM backlog is increasing

Between Friday morning and Saturday morning, 39,536 corona cases were registered. The actual number is probably quite high because of the growing backlog at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).

The institute has been struggling with a backlog for more than a week. Those infections have already been identified, but have not yet been registered. The backlog increased on Saturday to about 122,000 reports over the past twelve days, about 46,000 reports more than Friday. On Friday, the RIVM reported a new daily record.

Then (with correction) 74,066 reports were registered. In the past seven days, 421,030 positive tests have been passed, an average of 60,147 per day. Since Friday, that average has risen above 60,000 for the first time in the corona crisis. The average has doubled in about two weeks.
