New, stricter measures against the corona virus will apply from 5 a.m. on Sunday morning. The reason is the rapid advance of the omikron variant of corona.

The measures mean that everything classified as essential will remain open, while non-essential shops and other establishments will close. This means, among other things, that supermarkets will remain open, but that other shops will close.

Catering, animal parks, amusement parks and indoor sports facilities will close, but pet shops, pharmacies and opticians, among others, will remain open. All non-medical contact professions, such as hairdressers and beauticians, are also closed. This hard lockdown will certainly apply until 14 January.

In addition, education and out-of-school care are physically closed until at least 9 January. The cabinet will make a decision no later than 3 January about when classes can be resumed.

Indoor sports locations are closed, except for swimming lessons. Outdoor sports venues are open to all ages between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. For adults from 18 years old, sports are allowed outside with a maximum of two people 1.5 meters away. Children and young people up to the age of 17 can play sports outside and play matches at their own club. Professional football will continue ‘as usual’, so that the match between RKC Waalwijk and PSV can be played this Sunday.

At home, a maximum of two guests from the age of 13 can be received per day, but four on Christmas Eve, on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and during the New Year. Outside, a group maximum of two people from 13 years old applies, but a maximum of four people applies on Christmas Eve, Christmas and Boxing Day and during the New Year.
