He came in a T-shirt and shorts and is now stuck in the snow. Brent Underwood, 32, a businessman from the US state of Texas, traveled to the abandoned town of Cerro Gordo in mid-March. Then suddenly the snowstorm came, and Underwood has not been able to get out since, she writes “New York Post”.

Cerro Gordo was known as a gold mining town. At the end of the 19th century, when 5,000 miners lived there with their families, there was a murder every week. Since then, it is said to have haunted a high desert canyon in the California town. Brent Underwood was fascinated by the history of the place and sensed a business idea. He bought the 121-hectare Cerro Gordo in 2018 for the equivalent of around 1.4 million Swiss francs to make it a tourist attraction.

1.5 meters of fresh snow in four days
A few weeks ago, Underwood went to an inspection of his property. He wanted to stay a week. It was so warm that he could walk outside with summer clothes, the 32-year-old told The New York Post. But then the onset of winter followed overnight. It snowed through for four days, reports Underwood. The result: 1.5 meters of fresh snow. The only mountain road back to civilization has been impassable ever since.

Snow as a thirst quencher
He lives in a small house owned by the administrator Robert Desmarais (71). He is currently in Arizona with his wife. When corona virus became a major issue in the United States, Desmarais asked Underwood to take care of the property so that he could drive to his wife to check on her.

The house has electricity, but no running water. In order not to die of thirst, Underwood melts the snow. Thanks to numerous canned foods, the young man always has enough to eat.

“I don’t notice a coronavirus pandemic”
Far from civilization, the Texan spends his time hiking and photographs the stars at night. He has not yet met any ghosts. “Most of the time I leave the ghosts alone and they leave me alone,” he said.
–
He is not so unhappy about his situation because of the virus outbreak. «I don’t notice the corona virus pandemic in the country and I can do my work from here with the laptop. I’m really in no hurry to go back to my normal world. » (one)
