Corona incidence could soon no longer play a role

Stuttgart. The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Health is planning to move away from the number of new infections as a limit in the fight against the pandemic. “As a guideline for triggering restrictions, the incidence will in our opinion no longer appear in the Corona ordinances from mid-September,” said Minister Manne Lucha (Greens) of the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” (Thursday). A paradigm shift would be needed if everyone in the country had received a vaccination offer by September 15. Then there could be no more restrictions on the freedom of those who have been vaccinated twice. Unvaccinated people, on the other hand, would have to be prepared for restrictions – such as the obligation to perform a rapid test when visiting restaurants. Of course, one will wait for the decision of the prime ministerial conference on August 10th and include it, said Lucha.

A spokeswoman said that the number of infections would then have to rise. For restrictions, the incidence should then no longer play a role, instead, for example, hospitalization.

The role of the incidence value has been discussed politically for a long time. Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) had repeatedly emphasized in recent weeks that the incidence value will remain a key variable in the fight against the pandemic, even if other criteria are now also used.
