Corona crisis: New York City tightened restaurant rules

For fear of another corona wave in the metropolis of New York, the state is now tightening the rules for restaurants. Governor Andrew Cuomo enacted new regulations that state restaurants and bars “can only serve alcohol to people who order food,” like it in a communication was called. Alcoholic beverages should only be sold to seated guests who are at a minimum distance from other guests.

In addition, restaurants that were noticed three times for violating distance or mask requirements would be rigorously closed, said the government in New York. “Outrageous violations” can even lead to the immediate loss of alcohol permits or to closure beforehand. Many operators and citizens are not complying with the previous requirements, Cuomo complained: “It’s wrong, it’s dangerous, it’s selfish, it’s unacceptable. It’s also illegal.”

“In addition, the name and location of every facility accused of offenses by the state alcohol agency will be published and updated weekly,” it said.

Behind the new regulations lies the New York government’s fear of a second wave in the corona pandemic. New York had strict exit restrictions in March and was considered the epicenter of the crisis for weeks with up to 900 deaths a day.

In the meantime, despite some easing, the number of new infections is at a stable and low level, but the development in many other parts of the USA is worrying with new records in the number of infections every day.
