Another advantage that Henning emphasizes is that the “excellent price-performance ratio” – holidays in Germany are clearly more affordable for Swiss people.

Alternative to Bavaria and Baden-Würtemberg
The reason for the new campaign: The Swiss should also travel to other regions in Germany than Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. The two southern federal states, which border directly on Switzerland, are among the most popular German travel destinations of the Confederation. More than 60 percent of the 7.1 million Swiss overnight stays in Germany take place here.

Overall, the Swiss generated a sales volume of 4.4 billion euros on their trips to Germany in 2019. “Since tourism has temporarily come to a standstill, it will of course be difficult to reach this high level this year in 2020.” The GNTB has been promoting Germany as a travel destination abroad for over 60 years on behalf of the Federal Government.

Safe Corona Land
Henning says that the country’s exemplary approach to the crisis is a powerful means of advertising to convince the neighbors of a vacation in Germany. “Germany is internationally certified that it has mastered the Corona crisis quite well and is considered a safe travel destination,” he says.

He and his six employees with two trainees, who have their office in Zurich, want to further strengthen trust in the neighboring country in times of Corona. “Our top priority is to build trust for trade partners and consumers for trips to Germany,” explains Petra Hedorfer, chairwoman of the GNTB board.
