Scientists have found that patients with Covid-19 in the acute phase of the disease may develop confusion and delirium. They also run the risk of acquiring depression, anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder in the long term. The results of the study were published by the specialist journal “Lancet”.

“The previous flu pandemics were associated with long-term neuropsychiatric consequences, and it is therefore possible that the other virus infections can lead to persistent mental illnesses on a larger scale,” the study authors suspect.

The goal of the study was to investigate the two most recent coronavirus epidemics, Sars-CoV-2 and Mers-CoV, to identify potential psychiatric and neuropsychiatric outcomes from the current pandemic, the researchers said.
