[딜사이트 김가영 기자] Corning, a material science and technology company, held a ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of entering the Korean market.
On the 1st, Corning held an event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of investment in Korea at Corning Precision Materials Complex 2 in Tangjeong Display City, Asan. The event was attended by Tae-Hum Kim, Governor of South Chungcheong Province, Jae-Yong Lee, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, and Wendell Weeks, Chairman of Corning.
Corning, a special materials company established in the United States in 1851, formed a relationship with Korea in 1973 by joining hands with the late Samsung Group founder Lee Byung-cheol. The two companies established Samsung Corning, a cathode ray tube glass company, and played a leading role in opening ‘TV popularization’ in Korea. In 1995, Samsung invested half each to establish Samsung Corning Precision Glass and started manufacturing liquid crystal display (LCD) substrate glass. In 2007, Samsung Corning Precision Glass and Samsung Corning were merged.
Currently, Corning is supplying ‘Gorilla Glass Victus 2’ to the latest foldable smartphone Samsung Z Fold series released last month. They are also jointly developing new materials to be used in new smartphones next year.

Regarding this, Kim Tae-heum, governor of South Chungcheong Province, replied, “We will spare no support to help Chungnam become a manufacturing and technology hub for the global display industry together with Corning.”
