Coppa Italia to Inter, 2-1 to the Viola with Lautaro brace – Il Tempo

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Inter win the ninth Italian Cup in its history. Simone Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri – third trophy in his career for the coach from Piacenza, the second in a row – prevailed 2-1 in the final at the Stadio Olimpico against Fiorentina: Lautaro Martinez’s brace was decisive to overturn Nico Gonzalez’s goal. The Inter coach confirmed the eleven hypothesized on the eve, with Handanovic between the posts in place of Onana and the Dzeko-Lautaro duo in attack. The keys to the midfield were entrusted to Brozovic while Milan Skriniar was seen again on the bench, despite the now certain farewell at the end of the season. The Italian relied on a 4-2-3-1 with Cabral escorted by Ikone, Castrovilli and Nico Gonzalez, the Viola’s most fit man. The inertia of the match was immediately overturned by the Argentine himself: in the 3′ minute the number 22 was ready at the far post and reiterated Ikone’s suggestion on the net. Dzeko’s response – a shot deflected for a corner – came immediately, but Fiorentina came close to scoring the 2-0 goal with Amrabat’s shot from distance that came out by a matter of centimetres. After the first twenty minutes, in which the Italian team essentially dominated the game, the Nerazzurri reversed the score: in the 29th minute, Lautaro equalized (100th goal in an Inter shirt) with a close shot after moving on the edge of offside, then the Argentine doubled his lead eight minutes later by volleying Barella’s ball from the edge of the area. In the second half, the Viola tried to put Inter in difficulty with the usual forcing – Castrovilli tried from the edge, Biraghi from a free kick -, but the Italian team was unable to find the right passage. In the last quarter of an hour all the schemes were blown: Handanovic saved first on Nico Gonzalez then on Jovic, Inter missed the knockout first with Gosens and then wasting a counterattack on the Lukaku-Brozovic axis. There was no shortage of thrills in the final – a couple of repeatable outings by Handanovic with a save on the Darmian line -, however, the greatest opportunity still happened to Jovic: the Serbian’s header was lost by the back.
