Barcelona kicked out of Copa del Rey 2021/2022. Blaugrana eliminated by Athletic Bilbao in the last 16 after losing 2-3.
Competing at San Mames, Friday (21/1/2022) early morning WIB, Bilbao had managed to tear the Barcelona goal in the second minute through Iker Muniain. This situation had made Barca depressed.
Barcelona had difficulty pounding the Bilbao defense to find an equalizer. The home team played very well in maintaining its defense in front of the penalty box.
Barcelona just equalized the score in the 20th minute through Ferran Torres. The goal came from a good combination with Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba for Torres to finish with a shot on the edge of the area. Score 1-1 lasted until halftime.
Bilbao surprised Barcelona in the 86th minute. Inigo Martinez successfully tore the goal of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, after continuing Alejandro Berenguer’s header.
When the match seemed to be won by Barcelona, Pedri made the home team bite their fingers. He scored in second-half injury time after completing the chaos in the penalty box. The score 2-2 made the match go to extra time.
Barcelona had bad luck in the first half of extra time. Bilbao were awarded a penalty after VAR said Alba had handballed. Muniani advanced as executor and changed the score to 3-2.
Barcelona did everything possible in the second half of extra time. The barrage of attacks never became a goal and Barcelona had to be kicked out of the Copa del Rey after losing 2-3.
