Coop enters into agreement with French food chain giant

– It will make us competitive on purchasing prices, says purchasing director Tor Helge Gundersen in Coop to Today’s business.

Coop recently entered into the agreement and it will enable the chain to import French, Italian and Spanish brands to Norwegian store shelves.

With the agreement, Coop also hopes that they will receive a lower purchase price for international brands than the Norgesgruppen receives.

Coop’s Nordic purchasing company Coop Trading has entered into the agreement with Carrefour.

Purchasing Director Gundersen believes that if Coop gets cheaper alternatives through Carrefour, they will probably replace goods from Norwegian suppliers. Gundersen thinks this will mainly be about dry goods.

Former CEO of Coop Trading, Jan Lundgren, says to the Danish Grocery Store that the agreement with the French food chain giant will ensure a larger range on store shelves.

– With the agreement, we get access to Carrefour’s full range and volume. Thus, we will be able to continue the journey we have been on in recent years with more, new and better products. The agreement will mean that customers in Nordic stores will have the opportunity for a larger selection of exciting goods.

In 2019, Carrefour had a turnover of 80 billion euros, and today has 12,800 stores in nine countries.
