Thiruvananthapuram ∙ JDS national president Deve Gowda’s statement that he formed an alliance with BJP with the full consent of Pinarayi Vijayan has created a new controversy in Kerala politics. When Pinarayi and the Left leaders came forward to deny the statement, the UDF raised the allegation that it was a proof of CPM’s affiliation with the BJP.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that Gowda’s statement is untrue and complete nonsense. He is lying to justify his own political machinations. JDS has been a party standing with the Left Front in Kerala for ages. Their state leadership has a tradition of severing ties with the LDF in Kerala when the national leadership announced a different stand. Pinarayi said that the CPM has not tried to comment or interfere in the internal problems of that party.
JDS state president Mathew T. Thomas and minister K. Krishnankutty said that Gowda’s statement is untrue. CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yachuri called Gowda’s statement ridiculous. LDF Convenor EP Jayarajan said that Pinarayi Vijayan is the top leader of India fighting against fascist terrorism and he will not support such a decision. JD(S) national general secretary and state party spokesperson Jose Theta said that Gowda’s statement was false and absurd.
At the same time, Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan said that Deve Gowda’s revelation vindicates the opposition’s allegation that Pinarayi Vijayan and the CPM have unholy ties with the BJP. It is humiliating to have a representative of the BJP front in the LDF cabinet. The minister should be sacked within 24 hours. BJP is keeping the government and CPM away. It was the Kerala leadership that took the decision with the CPM central leadership not to send a representative to the ‘India’ front. Kerala administration is controlled by BJP and Sangh Parivar. Satheesan said that he is worried that the Thrissur Parliament seat will be moved between the two parties as part of the settlement of the Karuvannur investigation.
Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal asked what greater proof than Deve Gowda’s revelation that Congress Mukta Bharat is a joint dream of BJP and CPM. He said that because Pinarayi Vijayan was clearly aware of the BJP-JDS alliance, he did not expel the JDS representative from the cabinet.
CM Ibrahim, who was expelled from the Janata Dal (S) Karnataka State President, asked Pinarayi Vijayan to be ready to ask Minister K. Krishnankutty if he is standing with the Dal, which is part of the BJP alliance.
KPCC President K. Sudhakaran said that Gowda revealed the identity of Pinarayi Vijayan, who is a foothold of the BJP, fearing that central agencies will intervene in the gold smuggling and Life Mission cases. BJP’s ally has been retained in the cabinet as a bridge to the BJP.
Ramesh Chennithala said that with Deve Gowda’s revelation, the rift between BJP and Pinarayi has been hidden. When I said that the second Pinarayi government is a child of the BJP, Pinarayi Vijayan joked. The movement was made in 69 seats. Chennithala said that Pinarayi’s alliance fell apart with Deve Gowda’s revelation. UDF convener MM Hasan said that it was Deve Gowda who even inaugurated the boycott organized in front of the CPM secretariat on the solar issue.

After the announcement of the BJP-DAL alliance, the matter of the Dal elements outside Karnataka is undecided. Therefore, it only meant that the Dal remained part of the Left government in Kerala. Deve Gowda said that he wished the CPM had directly asked for an explanation or chosen better words for criticism.
