Controversy as Prime Minister Blocks Emergency Medical Assistance by Air: President Radev’s Office Responds

The words of the Prime Minister that the Cabinet has blocked the efforts to establish emergency medical assistance by air are completely untenable. This was announced by the press office of the head of state Rumen Radev on the occasion of academician Denkov’s criticism.

“We remind you that the very project to create emergency air medical assistance in Bulgaria was initiated and developed by the presidential institution as early as 2020 and laid down in the Recovery and Resilience Plan by the caretaker government in 2021. The project was defended before the European Commission and funding for it was secured precisely during the official offices of President Rumen Radev,” the president’s administration states.

“The delivery of the helicopters for HEMS in Bulgaria is the result of a contract also concluded by the cabinet after correcting wrongly set parameters by the previous regular government.

We also remind that the original project of the presidential institution provided for emergency medical assistance by air to be under the auspices of the State Aviation Operator, and not to create a duplicative structure that would carry out activities within the framework of a commercial company, for which considerable funds have already been spent.” the message also says.
