Contractors to be charged in alleged NYCHA kickback scheme – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – The Brooklyn District Attorney and the city’s Investigation Department are expected to announce charges Monday against more than half a dozen contractors who they say allegedly attempted to bribe NYCHA supervisors to obtain contracts on the developments. of Brooklyn public housing, sources familiar with the case told our sister network News 4.

Up to nine contractors turned themselves in Monday morning to face charges.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez and DOI officials are expected to announce details of the charges at a press conference later that day.

This case appears to have started after a NYCHA official reported a bribery attempt, sources said. That led to an undercover investigation that allegedly showed a more widespread problem, they added.

Some contractors were allegedly trying to pay a 10% bribe to NYCHA officials on any contract they were awarded, the sources said.

No public housing official has been charged at this time, the sources said. An investigation into the depth of the alleged problem is underway.

NYCHA could not immediately be reached for comment on the case.
