The National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumer) on Thursday warned of an irregularity in the air bag control system and in the functionality of the electromechanical power steering component of several Mercedes Benz brand models.
Due to the failures in 249 vehicles, the entity and the company Autozama, official representative of the brand in the country, reported in a press release about a safety campaign for the affected cars.
As part of the campaign, owners who own the C220, C200, C230, C280, C300, C350, C63 and GLK280 models, from 2007, 2008 and 2009, as well as the E200 and E300 models, from 2018 are requested , check on the website www.proconsumidor.gob.do, if your vehicle is among those affected and, in that case, go to the dealer to coordinate the review and repair it for free.
In the cases of the E200 and E300 models, damaged locknuts could have been installed on a guide component that handles the vehicle’s steering, mechanically called electromechanical power steering.
If that were the case, the damaged safety nut could break during the use of the guide, which could block it, thus increasing the risk of accident, a problem that affects six vehicles imported by the dealer, although there could be more units arriving in the country by other sources.
Meanwhile, in the C and GLK models the airbag control unit may suffer a failure due to the corrosion formed in its internal components, a problem that affects 243 units imported by Autozama.
Pro Consumer urges the owners of the vehicles described in this alert to contact the company where they purchased it or at the Autozama service workshop phone and check on the entity’s page, alerts section, the chassis numbers of The vehicles involved.
