Construction work on Saxony’s most important route: No more ICE between Leipzig – Dresden!

From Monday, there will be no ICE between Dresden and Leipzig between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the week. Deutsche Bahn is building on the line.

Dresden – Getting from Dresden to Leipzig quickly in just under an hour was previously possible with the ICE connections. But there will be severe restrictions on the track in the coming weeks.

A trip took an hour and seven minutes, then you were from Dresden to Leipzig and vice versa. The RE takes 1 hour and 44 minutes for the same route. But as of Monday, everything is different.

The reason: Deutsche Bahn is building on one of Saxony’s most important train routes. Passengers now have to be prepared for cancellations and diversions between the Saxon state capital and Leipzig, said Deutsche Bahn on theirs website With.

The trigger is the construction work east of Riesa between Zeithain and Leckwitz. This is why ICE no longer runs between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the week until December 11th. The route will also be closed to express trains on the weekend of October 17 and 18.

The ICE trains run at other times – but with earlier departures / later arrivals in Dresden.

The regional trains are still active, but they are on the road longer due to a diversion between Dresden and Riesa.

Stops en route between Dresden-Neustadt and Riesa are canceled. The IC trains are also allowed to jet, but have only a minimal time saving of eight minutes in contrast to the RE.

Replacement traffic will be set up between the cities of Großenhain and Riesa.

The construction work is annoying for one or the other, but it is sorely needed. Because the railway is renewing the route for speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour. So you should be on the move even faster in the future.
