Construction volume decreased by 4.1% in nine months

In the first nine months of this year, the volume of construction decreased by 4.1% compared to the corresponding period of 2020, according to calendar-adjusted data, according to Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) latest data.

Among them, construction of buildings decreased by 11.3% in nine months, specialized construction – by 0.9%, but civil engineering increased by 0.6%.

In the third quarter, compared to the third quarter of 2020, the volume of construction output according to calendar-adjusted data at constant prices decreased by 3.3%.

The volume of construction decreased in construction of buildings by 12.8% and in specialized construction works by 3.5%, while the volume of civil engineering construction increased by 4.4%.

The decline in output was due to a lack of new projects, a decrease in the number and volume of active construction sites, and a review of individual projects due to rising construction costs.

Compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year, the volume of construction decreased in specialized construction activities such as demolition and site preparation – by 22.4%, electrical installation, plumbing and other similar activities – by 6.7%, as well as other specialized construction ( roofing and other work nec) by 4.3%.

The volume of construction work (plastering, joinery, floor and wall covering, painting and glazing) increased by 8.7%.

Construction output growth was in all sectors of civil engineering in construction of roads and railways by 4.8%, in construction of urban infrastructure by 3.4% and in other civil engineering by 3.5%.

In the third quarter, compared to the second quarter of 2021, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices, the volume of construction output decreased by 3.5%, including in construction of buildings by 11.4% and in specialized construction works by 10.5%, but in civil engineering it increased by 2 .9%.
