Consequence of school massacre: After Parkland: teachers in Florida are now allowed to carry weapons – home

The bill has yet to be signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, who had previously signaled his support. A law passed shortly after the massacre in Parkland north of Miami had previously exempted teachers from carrying weapons while on duty.

Firearm abuse occurs in schools and colleges in the United States, sometimes with fatalities – most recently a few days ago on a university campus in North Carolina. Efforts to tighten gun laws have failed for years because the Republicans in particular are against it.

US President Donald Trump has advocated that teachers use firearms in the classroom to protect them from intruders. 30 states have now allowed this, he said recently at an event organized by the NRA gun lobby organization in Indianapolis.
