Conquering Norwich, West Ham Overtake Arsenal in the Top Four of the Premier League

London

West Ham United won 2-0 over Norwich City in week 21 Premier League this season. These results led The Hammers back into the top four standings.

Playing at the London Stadium, Thursday (13/1/2022) early morning WIB, West Ham appeared more dominant. They had 62 percent of the ball, and were more aggressive with 13 shots, 5 of which were on target. While Norwich made 5 shots, and there were three that led to goal.

But only West Ham were successful in converting opportunities into goals. Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring in the 42nd minute. Utilizing Vladimir Coufal’s cross from the right side, the 25-year-old striker’s header successfully broke into the Norwich goal, which was guarded by Tim Krul.

In the second half, Bowen added to the coffers of his goals. Receiving a low pass by Arthur Masuaku in the penalty box, he immediately completed the opportunity to score a goal through close range. Had it been annulled because it was suspected of being offside, the referee who saw the Video Assistant Referee then changed the decision.

This 2-0 score made West Ham move up to fourth in the standings with 37 points, shifting Arsenal to fifth place with a difference of two points. Even so, Arsenal still have one game in hand.

Manager West Ham, David Moyes satisfied with this victory, but stressed his team is not certain to qualify for the Champions League next season, considering the competition is only half way through.

“We have to continue like this. As long as we are still in the European zone, that is very good but if we can still get an advantage over other teams, we will take it,” Moyes said after the game, quoted by the BBC.

“I don’t think the current fourth position means much, it just shows that we have been consistent,” explained the Scot, commenting on the win West Ham.
