Confidence in politics has risen sharply

Confidence in politics has risen sharply under the influence of the corona crisis. For the first time since the third Rutte cabinet took office, a majority has confidence in the cabinet, the prime minister and politics in general, according to research by Ipsos on behalf of the NOS. A large majority thinks that Prime Minister Rutte, Minister De Jonge and RIVM are tackling the corona crisis well.

Shortly after the cabinet took office, slightly more than a third had confidence in Prime Minister Rutte. Now that is almost two thirds. Almost six in ten Dutch people see him as the ideal prime minister. Half of the supporters of the PvdA and GroenLinks also think that way.

The supporters of the PVV, Forum for Democracy and to a lesser extent the SP are the least favorable about Rutte. Still, a quarter of the PVV and FvD supporters think he is a good prime minister. Half of them consider him unfit.

Premierskandidaten

One third of the Dutch think that Hugo De Jonge would be a good prime minister. He is therefore in second place after Rutte, ahead of Sigrid Kaag (23 percent), Lodewijk Asscher (22 percent), Klaas Dijkhoff (20 percent) and Jesse Klaver (16 percent).

Minister Hoekstra of Finance – who has not been named as prime minister – receives the highest mark from the ministers: a 6.7, even higher than Prime Minister Rutte, who receives a 6.2. Minister De Jonge of Public Health is with a 6.0 third, while Minister Grapperhaus gets the lowest mark: 4.3.

Cabinet score

Appreciation for the cabinet as a whole is much higher than in previous years. On average, the Dutch give the cabinet a 6.2. Before the corona crisis, the Rutte III cabinet fluctuated between 4.9 and 5.7.
