Confederation establishes National Center for Cybersecurity

The Confederation continues to strengthen its activities in the field of cybersecurity. The ordinance on cyber risks, adopted by the Federal Council last May 28, has been in effect since Wednesday, July 1, 2020 and with it, the foundation of the new National Center for Cybersecurity (NCSC). This is intended to become the first point of contact for the business community, the administration, educational establishments and the population for any question relating to cybersecurity. The center is also responsible for implementing the national strategy for the protection of Switzerland against cyber risks (CRS).

The new center, notably designed to function as a national window for the reporting of incidents and questions relating to cyber risks, builds on existing skills and specialized units. Thus, the Information Security Registration and Analysis Center (MELANI) integrates the NCSC with the IT emergency response team (GovCERT) as a specialized service. In addition, the NCSC provides specialist offices with a group of experts to assist them in the development and implementation of cybersecurity standards.
