On Wednesday evening, at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, the two highest-ranked teams from group A met. And while the Italians won their first game very confidently, 3: 0 with Turkey, the Swiss stumbled against Denmark, drawing 1: 1. The Italians played in front of their own audience to confirm their championship aspirations, while the Swiss had to score points not to be against the wall in the last round, in which they will face Turkey, the weakest in the group.
While the first seconds of the game belonged to the Swiss, from the third minute for half the fans gathered at the Stadio Olimpico watched the absolute domination of the hosts, who after a short “warm-up” included a higher gear, unavailable to the rival .
In the 11th minute of the game, Immobile did not take advantage of the great opportunity, who headed after the Spinazzola center from a few meters above the goal. A few minutes later, after a misconduct, he hit the net Chiellini, but after VAR’s intervention it turned out that an experienced Italian defender helped himself with his hand. The goal was not recognized, and after a few more minutes that due to an injury the captain of the Italian national team must leave the field with a muscular injury.
It did not break Italy, however, and in the 26th minute it was already 1: 0. A great action was played by the duo z Sassuolo Manuel Locatelli – Domenico Berardi. First, Locatelli launched Berardi with a great long pass, the one on the right wing managed to deal with his rival and put the ball on the fifth meter, where he ran … Locatelli of course. The 23-year-old midfielder hit an empty goal and opened the scoring.
Spinazzola and Immobile did not take advantage of the first half of good opportunities. The second part of the game started with the advantage of the Swiss, which ended with … a goal for the Italians. In the 52nd minute Manuel Locatelli showed an excellent shot from 20 meters. He hit hard, flat and precisely and after a while he was able to enjoy the second goal in this game.
The Swiss did not give up. Shaqiri missed the target from a distance, and soon Zuber lost the duel with Donnarumm. The Italians, in turn, responded with extremely dangerous counterattacks, including Immobile. The Lazio forward was ineffective that day, however, and in the last 20 minutes he wasted two one-on-one situations with the goalkeeper, after which … a strong shot from a distance in the 89th minute of the game finally defeated Sommer and set the result of this match at 3-0.
The Italians smashed the Swiss as much as 3: 0 and are already sure of their promotion to the Euro 2020 knockout stage, presenting an extremely effective game. The crushed Swiss today will fight for this promotion in the last match of the group stage with Turkey.
