Concern over ‘wave’ of thefts in towns in northern Tolima: both in rural and urban areas

In dialogue with EL NUEVO DÍA, the president of the people of Fresno, Alexander Mejía, explained that security councils have been periodically advanced, in order to evaluate the progress and the problems that remain, adding that unfortunately crime continues in different sectors.

Precisely, after the situation of the weekend, on Monday afternoon the second extraordinary security council of the year was brought forward, where several measures were agreed upon, such as intensifying patrolling, increasing the presence of the Police and the Army, “but above all working articulated with the objective of being able to cover the urban and rural part of our municipality”, specified the Mayor.

Additionally, the municipal Administration will review the public lighting to identify the areas that are in darkness, likewise, the operation of the security cameras and strategies will be sought to ensure that people report in a timely manner.

As for the corridors that connect with neighboring villages or municipalities, he explained that given the complexity of the territory, the call is to organize community groups to issue alerts to the authorities about what happens, “that among all people we make a security front and let us begin to notify each other, help each other through a support network to be able to provide coverage and that the Public Force, at the moment we arrive to request their presence, can arrive ”.

With the facts recorded, there is uneasiness among the producers of avocado, soursop, plantain, brown sugar cane, cocoa and coffee, since they must continually move to the urban area, for this reason they demand greater security.

Given the panorama, a request is to increase the foot of force, the issue was addressed in the security council, there it was analyzed that it is essential that the Municipality provide the equipment to be able to create a new quadrant with the men assigned by the Police, ” If we do not have the motorcycle, the radiotelephone, the necessary tools, that part does not become operational. So we are evaluating them, with the objective of whether or not we can cover the endowment that the police require so that they enable this new quadrant for Fresno ”, he specified.

What happens in Palocabildo

The population is characterized by its tranquility, however, during the last weeks events were evidenced on the San Felipe – Falan – Palocabildo road and in the urban area of ​​the population.

The president Nelson Gómez indicated that he seeks with the departmental government to organize a security council in which the events of the three northern towns are jointly analyzed, likewise, he made reference to the fact that he will request “reinforcement of the Police and Army, they have helped us a lot, but this time we require a little more help to guarantee the tranquility and security of our countrymen,” he said.

Gómez indicated that recently they reported the theft of a motorcycle and cell phones from some young people who were moving between San Felipe and Falan, also, there was an attempted robbery of a well-known merchant through this same route that is characterized by being lonely and surrounded of paddocks

The theft of a motorcycle in the Muleros jurisdiction of Palocabildo is added; The curious thing about this fact is that the assailants apparently cremated it 200 meters ahead of where it was extracted.

On the other hand, the president of Casabianca, Yineth Cifuentes, commented that her municipality does not have security cameras in operation, drew attention to the San Jerónimo town center, a place where robberies are registered against merchants, coffee buyers or owners of supermarkets, “we have neither police nor cameras to avoid all this”. Thefts, it seems, increase on Sundays, market day.

The Mayor indicated that within the framework of the year-end festivities, a temporary reinforcement of 10 police units arrived and given the current circumstances, she will seek to negotiate with the Secretary of the Interior of the Department the permanence in her municipality of at least four of these units.
