Concern in Botswana over the massive death of elephants in the Okavango Delta

There is concern in the Okavango Delta, a tributary located in Botswana, an African country, for the deaths of hundreds of elephants. This phenomenon is occurring in a massive way and without apparent explanation.

More than 350 of these mammals have mysteriously perished since May 2020, a number that set off alarm bells among animal advocates worldwide.

Among the hypotheses that are being handled about the causes is a potent pathogen or poisoning.

However, the carrion birds that devour elephant carcasses are not being affected, a situation that rules out that they are poisoning them with cyanide, an element that poachers use to kill this species.

The Botswan government is raining criticism because, according to the international community, the corresponding investigations are not being carried out to stop the massive deaths of elephants in Africa.
