Complete guide on how to get around Alicante

Alicantebesides being my hometown and where I currently reside, it is one of the hot tourist spots in the Spanish Levant. Every year, millions of travelers pass by this coastal city, beautiful, pleasant and where the quality of life is – in my opinion, perhaps not so objective – almost perfect. The beaches, the gastronomy, the numerous nature and hiking options and the good weather are truly powerful statements. If you are planning a trip to the capital of the Costa Blanca, definitely this one A complete guide on how to get around Alicante will come in handy.

Alicante is a small and manageable city, with a historic center which is located a few meters from the sea and which is very easily explored on foot. However, if you’re staying away from the centre, it can be convenient to use transport, especially on hot summer afternoons, when walking is almost like breaking a sweat in a few minutes.

Furthermore, even the best beaches of Alicante are located at a distance from the centre. If you want to visit other beaches or beautiful cities in the province and you don’t have a car, it will also be useful to know how to get around Alicante.

The tram (or tram) is the most comfortable way to get around Alicante.

With it you can go to the sea, to the centre, to the northern part of the city, to the peripheral districts and even to almost all the important tourist resorts in the north of the province (such as Benidorm, marshmallow, Villajoyosa or Calpe), until you reach Denia, already on the border with the province of Valencia.

In total, it has 6 rows (L1, L2, L3, L4, L5 and L9), although there are 5 of them used for the urban area and the beaches closest to the center of Alicante.

The Alicante tram map shows different zones, and each of the lines moves through one or more of these areas. The fare you pay will depend on how many zones you pass through and how far apart they are.

As for the Tickets:

  • A single ticket costs €1.45, which covers a single area. The one with six zones will cost you €7.15.
  • Another way to pay for your Alicante tram rides is using the TAM Móbilis card, used for both buses and trams. The physical support costs €2 and you can top it up with different travel amounts. The prices of the refills are as follows: 10 trips/€8.70, 30 trips/€26.10. There are other bonuses with youth discounts and others of 30 days. People over 65 years of age do not pay for using the tram or bus. click here for check all rates of cards and Móbilis vouchers.

As for the timetables, it is not a 24 hour service, but it has a wide range of timetables, with the first trams leave shortly after 5 in the morning and the last around midnight. In summer, the opening hours are extended, especially on weekends.

Another very useful tip to know how to get around Alicante is the bus to the airport.

For Go from Alicante airport to the city centre, the C-6 bus represents the cheapest way and, without a doubt, the best alternative if we look at the quality-price ratio.

It is a bus like the urban ones, equipped with a large compartment for suitcases.

He currently has a cost of €3.85 per trip (although it is possible to buy a rechargeable card for €2 and €12 for every 10 trips), runs every 20 minutes between 5:00 (earliest departure from downtown) and 00:00 (last departure from airport) and has several stops in downtown. The journey from the central Plaza de los Luceros to the airport takes about 25 minutes.

You can check all the specific times on the previous Vectalia website.

Taxi and Cabify

As you can imagine, this is the most expensive way to get around Alicante. You will find taxis without problems, either in the numerous parking lots in the center or by calling one of the taxi companies in Alicante.

As for Cabify (there’s no Uber in Alicante), you can use the app to request a service, just like anywhere else. Anyway, you should know that after trying both multiple times, it ends up not making much of a difference between a Cabify fare and a normal taxi fare.

Commuter train from Alicante and Murcia

If you want to get to know the towns in the south of the province rather than getting around Alicante, you will have to go to Renfe central station to take the suburban train that connects Alicante and Murcia. Then you can visit cities such as Elche, Orihuela or Callosa.
