Complaints of the Russian Foreign Minister After Attending the G20 Meeting in Bali All

BADUNG, KOMPAS.com – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made a complaint after attending the Foreign Ministers Meeting G20 (FMM) in Nusa Dua, Badung, Bali.

He said on Friday (8/7/2022), that the Foreign Ministers of Western countries who attended G20 meeting in Indonesia this week used the opportunity to launch a verbal attack on Russia instead of sticking to discussions about global economic challenges.

Lavrov said he decided not to go to the summit to take pictures with other officials.

If foreign ministers from the West wanted to pass up some of the entertainment offered by Indonesia so as not to be seen with him, he said, it was up to their understanding of protocol and courtesy.

Quoted from Russia Today (RT), several countries that want to punish Russia for attacking Ukraine pledged to use the G20 meeting in Bali to show Russia’s diplomatic isolation.

“It is clear that they did not use the G20 for the purposes for which it was created,” Lavrov said.

He felt that the meeting participants from developing countries did not support this approach.

“Aggressors, invaders, occupants. We’ve heard some things like that today,” he explained, explaining a speech made by Western officials.

Lavrov said that the signals coming from Western countries were contradictory.

The reason, he said, some officials called for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.

While others urged Ukraine to fight and win before talking to Moscow.

“If the West doesn’t want talks and wants victory over Russia on the battlefield then maybe we have nothing to talk about,” Lavrov said.

He said in some cases the West’s appeal to Russia seemed more about theatrical effect than anything else. He gave an example of what happened to the British PM, Boris Johnson.

He is known to have announced his resignation as Conservative Party leader and head of government on Thursday (7/7/2022), amid the latest scandal to plague his cabinet.

“Well, he resigned, and so it was,” said Lavrov.

“Everyone says Russia should be isolated. But so far his own party has isolated Boris Johnson.”

Russia sent troops to Ukraine on February 24.

Russia demands Ukraine as a neutral country that will never join any Western military bloc.

On the other hand, Ukraine insists the Russian attack was completely unprovoked.
