Competition. The best galette des rois du Haut-Rhin comes from Lutterbach

The award ceremony for the eighth edition of the best galette des rois du Haut-Rhin, by Alain Rebert, president of the federation of bakers of the department, took place on Friday evening in Colmar.

Fifteen bakers presented their pancakes to the jury made up of professionals, chaired by Jean-Claude Iltis, best worker in France. The quality of the puff pastry was judged, as was its crispness, the taste of frangipane or almond cream, the regularity of the cooking, skilful balance between the temperature and the quantity of frangipane for an optimal and homogeneous cooking and of course, the bean.

The 2021 Haut-Rhin galette d’or was awarded to Emmanuel Gross from Lutterbach. The two silver pancakes went to Nicolas Kaestlé, Au petit Schlitteur in Muhlbach-sur-Munster, already winner in a previous edition and also of the Grand Est competition, and to the youngest of the candidates, Louis Knutti, still an apprentice at the bakery Imhoff in Colmar.

For the winners, it is recognition of their know-how which will have a significant impact on sales.
