The Compagnie de théâtre des petits champs, created by Clément Hervieu-Léger and Daniel San Pedro in 2010, has an international reputation, but with its feet firmly on the ground. Having its headquarters in Beaumontel (Eure), on the Hervieu family farm (home to Clément’s parents, Bertrand Hervieu and Danièle Hervieu-Léger) certainly helps. “Our dreams start here,” declares Clément Hervieu, director, showing the Stable, a place of rehearsal, but also of exhibition, which was a model of modern agricultural exploitation after the war.

The Company travels well

Faithful to the territory, the Company of Small Fields will play Place de la République, one of his creations, on October 19 at 8 p.m. at the village hall of La Barre-en-Ouche, delegated commune of Mesnil-en-Ouche, a few days after a performance performed… in New York, in the USA.

Indeed, Place de la République was performed on September 18 in the United States, where another creation by Petits Champs, Le voyage en Uruguay, has already been presented. And on their return from the United States, the Petits Champs performed another play, A Month in the Country, at the National Drama Center (CDN) in Lorient. Les Petits champs travel well… and are constantly setting up new projects. “In 2023, we created the dance show We finish well the horses,” recalls Daniel San Pedro, artistic director and actor. A show with 44 performers and 33 dancers, with the Ballet du Rhin, currently on tour (in Châteauvallon, Bayonne, Biarritz, etc.).

The Company’s 10th anniversary could not be celebrated with dignity in May 2020, due to Covid. So, to make up for it a little, and to thank those who trust him and give him subsidies, a reception was organized on August 31 at the Stable. History of also formalizing the new agreements for the period 2022 to 2025, signed with several partners. The Compagnie des Petits Champs is approved by the Drac Normandie – Ministry of Culture and Communication, the Normandy Region, the Department of Eure and the Intercom of Bernay Terre de Normandie (IBTN).

We are on the roads very often, but everything starts from here, in Beaumontel.

“We are very often on the roads, but everything starts from here, in Beaumontel,” noted Clément Hervieu-Léger during this ceremony, keen to mention “the freedom of creation and tone” which he believes the Company benefits from, to whom “no injunction is given”.

Several speakers then praised the Company. Among these, Alexandre Rassaërt, president of the Department of Eure.

“Culture has an important social role and from this point of view, the Compagnie des petits champs has a certain requirement,” says the latter. It’s not true that we bring people in by doing average, which doesn’t mean we have to be elitist. » The subject being eminently political, Alexandre Rassaërt said forcefully:

Concretely, what some would have you believe, rurality is not an abandoned wasteland. There are many projects in rural areas. From this point of view, La Compagnie des petits champs is a textbook case.
