Community of Madrid Launches #ReadMadrid+60 Program for Older Adults in Public Libraries

The Community of Madrid launches the #ReadMadrid+60 program, a set of free activities organized in three of its public libraries and aimed at older people, which include proposals related to reading and cultural entertainment.

This project of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports will be carried out from January 15 to March 20 and the Antonio Mingote, in the district of Latina, is part of it; José Luis Sampedro, in Chamberí; and Pedro Salinas, in the downtown area.

Thus, in the first of these libraries, the Antonio Mingoteinitiatives linked to the settings in which the novel takes place will be offered Fortunata and Jacintha, by Benito Pérez Galdós. There will be a total of three itineraries that will explore the Fortunata Territories around Hortaleza Street, Las Vistillas and the Chamberí neighborhood. In addition, different workshops will be launched, such as the History and Practice of Theatre, which aims to publicize this performing art through dramatized readings.

In the José Luis Sampedro, adults will be able to learn about the richness and evolution of the Madrid parks of Fuente del Berro, Quinta de los Molinos, Pasillo Verde Ferroviario and Tierno Galván. And for lovers of flamenco art, Poetry and Flamenco is on offer, which will explore and analyze the link between these two artistic disciplines through texts and sound and audiovisual materials.

Lastly, the Pedro Salinas, located in the Centro district, will focus on walks through the heart of the historic center of the capital, with alternatives such as The Beginnings of the City and Medieval Madrid, The Madrid of Charles III and The Madrid of Romanticism. In addition, the Initiation to watercolor course will be held, a first contact with this painting technique.

Likewise, the technological workshop How does the Internet work? will be offered in the three libraries. Keys to browsing safely, which will allow people over 60 years of age to learn about issues such as algorithms, bubble filters, echo chambers and cybersecurity, with the aim that participants can easily acquire prevention habits and apply them to their lives. day by day feeling more confident with the use of your smartphone.

Finally, these centers also organize a visit to the Mapfre Foundation and the exhibition Chagall: a cry for freedom, an exhibition resulting from the collaboration between La Piscine – Musée d’Art et d’Industrie André Diligent, (Roubaix), Fundación MAPFRE and the Musée national Marc Chagall in Nice.
