Kathmandu: Communist leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias ‘Prachanda’ will be sworn in as the new prime minister of Nepal today. President Bindya Devi Bhandari appointed Prachanda, chairman of the Maoist Center of the Communist Party of Nepal as Prime Minister. Prachanda will be sworn in as Prime Minister today at 4pm.
This is the third time that Prachanda becomes Prime Minister of Nepal. Prachanda previously held the position of Prime Minister in 2008 and 2016. Prachanda assumed the position of Prime Minister with the support of the opposition Marxist Leninist United Communist Party and other smaller parties.

Elections were held in Nepal on 20 November. The suspended assembly was born. It is understood that Prachanda will be Prime Minister for the first two and a half years. Prachanda secured the support of 165 members in the 275-member House.
The President had previously called on parties to demonstrate a majority in Parliament. Prachanda made the request as the deadline given by the president expired at 5pm on Sunday. Prachanda, who has been in hiding for 13 years, is coming to mainstream politics after the CPN-Maoist party ended the armed conflict.
