The Swiss information and communication technology (ICT) industry expects the situation to improve slightly over the next three months. But there is still a long way to go before regaining growth, according to the Swico ICT index.
Since the coronavirus crisis, the index is raised monthly, said the apex of the free Monday. Software developers are much more optimistic than a month ago, as are IT service providers and consulting firms in the field. The values of the indices in these subsectors oscillate between 77 and 83 points, corresponding to significant increases compared to the previous one, with +8 points and +18 points respectively.
These values nevertheless remain below the growth zone, located at 100 points. Swico explains in its press release that the values are low due to the measures taken to fight the spread of the pandemic, which have led to the postponement of certain projects and more difficult collaboration with customers. The acquisition of new customers is also hampered.
The picture is less rosy in the area of computer technology, where the outlook has barely improved compared to the previous month (60.8 points), as well as specialists in consumer electronics (44.7 points) and for the digital printing sector (38.8 points). According to Swico, these poor performances reflect the unwillingness to invest.
For the ICT sector as a whole, the index rose to 76.2 points, following the survey carried out by the umbrella organization. It is thus registered 10 points above that of April, a “positive signal”, estimated the director of Swico, Judith Bellaiche. “But we are still far from a easing of the situation,” she added, quoted in the press release.
