Hermas Efendi Prabowo, owner of the specialist automatic car repair shop Worner Matic, said that a habit often used by automatic car drivers is being too aggressive when the new lever is moved.

“Apart from aggressive driving or frequently moving the lever, there are other mistakes that are often made but that users are not aware of. “The most common is accelerating too quickly when the transmission has just been moved to position D or R,” said Hermas to Kompas.com some time ago.

It is best to move the transmission lever position from N or D to R slowly, and press the gas pedal appropriately.

“After moving to D or R, don’t immediately gas, give a pause or time of one to two seconds so that the gear is really engaged and can work optimally,” explained Hermas.

Rushing to move the transmission to position P when the car has not stopped completely can also have a bad impact on the transmission.

Hermas said that changing the transmission oil too late or not changing it according to the manufacturer’s recommendations could unknowingly damage the life of the automatic transmission.
